Pine River MN - Mile 30
Pine River is known as the "Birthplace of the Paul Bunyan Trail". The reason for this title is that Pine River was the first community along the former Burlington Northern Railroad to offer a resolution to the State of Minnesota to create a "recreational corridor" along the soon-to-be-abandoned rail line. This happened in 1983. Since that time the Paul Bunyan Trail was developed and the Pine River Chamber of Commerce built a new Information Center along the former railroad line in Pine River. The information center is also a Explore Minnesota Affiliate Information Center offering information from throughout the State. You'll find clean restrooms, plenty of parking, wireless Internet and lots of information! The Information Center is also located adjacent to the historic Pine River Railroad Depot which was recently saved and restored and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. A vintage Mesabi-Duluth red caboose also resides near the depot. Stop by anytime and try on Paul Bunyan's baby boots for a photo op in the center! They fit everyone! We'll look forward to seeing you in Pine River!
